The American Community Gardening Association strives to increase and enhance community gardening and greening across the United States and Canada. Its binational network of professionals, volunteers, and supporters of community greening help promote and support all aspects of community gardening, urban forestry, and preservation of open spaces. The association supplies community groups and schools with information and education to boost children's interest in fruits and vegetables and increase their relationship with nature, recognizing that community gardens work to stimulate social interaction, beautify, and promote sustainability.
Robert Cole’s professional ballet career is one of international proportions—he's graced the stage with The National Ballet of Canada and trained with the Joffrey Ballet School, among many others. As The Ballet Academy's director, Robert blends classical training with movement analysis and conditioning while challenging students to contemplate the whys and hows of creative movement. He and his team of professional instructors help adults and children explore their artistic sides in judgment-free dance classes in the styles of tap, jazz, modern, and ballet. The Academy Division grants more serious performers the benefits of a professional training environment as they further master confidence and discipline. For those who merely want to get in shape or hear the sounds of their hearts beating really fast, The Ballet Academy's instructors also lead Zumba and yoga classes.
Instructors Russ and Lynn Edgington hold the reins at Edgewood Equestrian. Along with instructor Stacy Boles, they specialize in classical dressage, cowboy dressage, and driving dressage. They take on all levels of riders, leading private, semiprivate, and group lessons for adults and kids. Their indoor and outdoor facilities allow them to conduct lessons in any type of weather, meaning students can bond with stallions even if it is raining, snowing, or so sunny that horses would instinctively go to the beach if not kept indoors.
Despite its inland locale, Pappy's Grill on 79 models itself after a seaside paradise in the Florida Keys. The dining room's walls open wide to let in evening breezes, which intermingle with the aromas of seafood and bar classics. In the kitchen, he hand-breads shrimp, beer-batters frog legs, and tops thick-cut bologna sandwiches with a sauce forged from a secret recipe known only to the spies hidden behind his grill. His bartending staff whip up island-style cocktails and fill 120-ounce towers with beer, which patrons can imbibe while keeping abreast of the latest Buckeye games or sporting events.
Formerly an award-winning home brewer, Mike Byrne now oversees the award-winning Buckeye Lake Brewery’s handcrafted beer. Its rotating selection of six beers on tap, which range from a brown porter to an amber ale to a stout, fills growlers at the 42-seat pub. Along with Ohio wine, the brews complement the pub's panini sandwiches and pizza delivered from Pizza Cottage straight to the pub’s tables.
Tucked into the rolling hillsides of Johnstown, The Links at Echo Springs is equal parts pretty and challenging. Fairways lined with mature hardwood forests skirt streams and ponds. Off the course, there’s a fully stocked pro shop, a driving range with a PGA staff available for lessons, and a bar and grill waiting to serve up celebratory hamburgers.
