Though Ponce de León originally sought the fabled Fountain of Youth, his mission fell apart when he glimpsed the Fountain of Wine encircled by blossoming brie bushes. Hunt the elusive grape with today's Groupon: for $7, you get access to the open wine and snack bar at Wine Down Wednesdays at HistoryMiami on Flagler Street (a $15 value).

HistoryMiami celebrates Miami's unique legacy with rotating exhibits tracing the area’s history from prehistoric times to the modern day. On the first Wednesday of every month, HistoryMiami throws down an open smorgasbord of live jams, fine wine, and tempting tidbits to flutter the wings of local social butterflies. July's Wine Down Wednesday celebrates the new Aviation in Miami exhibit with a special performance by the Oscar Fuentes Combo, whose poetic, Latin-fused rhythms evoke the history of Florida's skies, from Howard Gill's cardinal flight a century ago to today's majestic herds of domesticated clouds. Imbibe from the open wine and food bar while enjoying access to the museum galleries, outdoor courtyard, and spectral Crockett and Tubbs. Free parking is available at Cultural Parking Garage at 50 Northwest Second Avenue.

The Groupon Guide to: Barbecue Secrets

Every barbecue joint boasts a secret ingredient or technique that makes its sauce unlike any other. Since most barbecue chefs have taken these secrets to the grave, here's a new list of public-domain barbecue secrets for the aspiring grillsman:

  • Throw recipe thieves off your trail by filling your sauce with decoy ingredients such as talc, water, and heaping spoonfuls of rival sauces.
  • Age your sauce in an oak cask for 15 years—it doesn't do anything, but you'll sure be hungry by then.
  • Go bananas—add bananas to your sauce!
  • BBQ is short for B.B. Queen—the wife of legendary bluesman B.B. King—and real barbecue sauce must contain exactly one of her soulful tears.
  • As with success in any field, the real secret ingredient is confidence —except in barbecue sauces, in which it is horseradish.
