Godzilla sequels and people named John have taught us that although there may be many versions of something, only a few are memorable. Such is the case with the cheesesteak. Sink your chompers into a rendition you won't soon forget with today's deal: for $5, you get $10 toward cheesesteaks and other mythical sandwiches and drinks at Steaks on South. Don one of your winter coats, no matter what the season, and head to South Street to trade your freshly minted Groupon for a hot-off-the press comestible.

The made-to-order sandwiches of Steaks on South (SOS) leave a favorable impression on the palates of even lifelong cheesesteakers. SOS banks on the quality of its food itself instead of on the cheap touristy aura surrounding the sandwich, meaning a request to hold the Wiz or onions won't result in an ostentatious public shaming. Throats will not be stepped on by the friendly staff, only fed a heaping pile of ingredients in a mouth-warming bun.

The classic cheesesteak ($7.50) is reliably topped with fried onions and choice of cheese (Cheez Wiz, American, sharp or regular provolone, mozzarella, or swiss). Order it plain or hoagie style (with lettuce, tomato, and raw onion). If chicken's the name of your game, SOS has a long-winded run-on sentence of options, including chicken cheesesteak ($7.35), hoagie, pizza chicken, barbecue chicken, and buffalo chicken steak ($7.80) (with spicy sauce and bleu cheese). Other specialty sandwiches include the beloved SOS garlic, studded roast pork with broccoli rabe ($7.35), or the SOS sausage sandwich ($7.60). The menu also offers some veggie options to appease herbivores, such as the popular grilled veggie steak (with roasted peppers and broccoli rabe) ($6.75). Add a few fried fries and wash it all down with an icy soda or milky shake.

Though not the most romantic of dinners, a cheesesteak date is a great way to see if that boy who only talks to you via texts is a true Philadelphian and therefore true love. Head in for a midday meal to shake up the monotony of your usual lunch-break jazzercise routine.

Groupon Says

Hi, Steaks!

Whether you're staking a claim on a rich vein of Steak-umms® or apologizing for the mistake of staking out a stakeholder of Stakey's Pumpkin Farm, who you suspected was a vampire in need of staking, steaks are a part of our daily life as well as our vocabulary. Now you can learn the vocabulary of steaks with our handy ordering guide:

Medium-Rare: This indicates that you want your steak to be made from an animal that is rare, but not too rare, such as the leopard shark, or the gaur.

Rare: This tells your server that you don't want to eat steaks too frequently, preferring to save them for special occasions, such as the birth of your first son, Amiga, or finally telling your boss where he can shove his beautiful head of silver hair.

Medium-Cool: This lets the chef know that you want to eat your steak while viewing Haskell Wexler's seminal vérité-style docu-drama Medium Cool, in which he incorporates both scripted and documentary footage to tell the story of the 1968 Democratic National Convention and subsequent election of President Zappa.

Put Wings on It!: This indicates that you wish for your steak to be brought to you quickly, or alternatively, that you are ordering the chicken.
