In a Nutshell

Off-Broadway hit splits skewers contentious world of performers with talented cast belting out catchy tunes

The Fine Print

Alfred Hitchcock once said, "Drama is life with the dull bits cut out," which explains his penchant for casting crust-less sandwiches in every leading role. Chew on exciting art with today's GrouponLive deal: for $20, you get one ticket to the Pittsburgh CLO’s performance of Ruthless! The Musical at The Cabaret at Theater Square (up to a $44.75 value, depending on the show). Groupon customers will receive the best seating available at the time of purchase. Doors open 90 minutes before the show. Choose from the following performances:

  • Friday, January 27, at 7:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, January 28, at 2 p.m.
  • Saturday, January 28, at 7:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, January 29, at 2 p.m.
  • Thursday, February 2, at 7:30 p.m.
  • Friday, February 3, at 7:30 p.m.

Entering its 20th year as an off-Broadway hit, Ruthless! The Musical captivates audiences with a dramatic yet laugh-packed swipe at the contentious world of Broadway performers. Inside the Cabaret's intimate, 230-seat theater, viewers slither on their bellies to the edge of their seats as Tina Denmark, an 8-year-old budding star, desperately covets the starring role in her school play, turning to extreme measures such as murder to achieve her dream. The talented cast interjects toe-tapping ditties throughout the performance, including the darkly humorous classics "I Hate Musicals," "Angel Mom," and "Born to Entertain," a soulful ballad about secretly longing to become a beloved game-show host. Dedicated to celebrating musical theater past and present, the Pittsburgh CLO proudly remains a nonprofit cultural institution that lauds distinguished musical-theater folk while launching the careers of another generation of skilled performers.

The Groupon Guide to: Forgotten Video Games

As more and more video games are rebooted, sequeled, and adapted into hit procedural dramas and breakfast pastries, some 8-bit classics have fallen by the wayside. What are some classic video games you forgot to remember?

Battle Brothers (ActivoVision, 1989): In this high-octane punch 'em up, two rad brothers (Clint and Vortex) must survive a concrete gauntlet in order to rescue the president’s stolen bike.
Forgotten Fact: In Battle Brothers, both players could accidentally cause damage to each other, resulting in exciting real-life fistfights between real-life brothers.

Swords & Squares (Dønderhuff ElectroPublishing, 1981): This brain-enhancing game of medieval strategy pits dueling royal courts against each other, and bestows players with a dot-matrix certificate at the end that assigns performance-based ranks, ranging from Knight of the Round to Horsepox Survivor.
Forgotten Fact: Game is essentially chess.

Olympics® '87! (Pixellius, 1986): You play as Torcho®, the Olympic Torch®, as he is passed hand-to-hand between different athletes on his globetrotting journey. Don’t tip over and set their sweat-slicked hair ablaze!
Forgotten Fact: Not affiliated with the Olympics in any way, Olympics® '87 holds the record for video game most frequently mentioned in court transcripts.
