Luxurious English Cottages amid Gardens and Hot Springs
Deep below the extensive, English-style gardens of the Lithia Springs Resort Hotel and Inn bubbles an immense hot spring heated by natural geothermic activity. Ever since Native Americans first discovered the unique therapeutic properties of these waters centuries ago, people have been reaping their restorative benefits. The tradition continues today. Mineral water drawn from Lithia Hot Springs fills the hotel's in-room whirlpool tubs and pours from oxidized cold drinking water dispensers, allowing travelers a chance to absorb the high-alkaline content of the rejuvenating springs. Sheltered within a small canyon on four acres of tranquil grounds, the hotel has the feel of a far-flung retreat despite its proximity to downtown Ashland. In the lobby, guests nibble homemade pastries beside a cozy fireplace during the complimentary afternoon tea service. A breakfast buffet in the morning includes such offerings as eggs benedict and Irish oatmeal with warm pears. Each of the spacious English Premium King Cottages has been designed with total relaxation in mind, whether that means soaking in a whirlpool tub or lounging on a leather sofa in front of a gas fireplace cooing Nat King Cole ballads.
Ashland, Oregon: Picturesque Town with Thriving Theater Scene
Though a relatively small town in southern Oregon, Ashland is home to an internationally renowned repertory theater—the Tony Award-winning Oregon Shakespeare Festival, which has been staging the Bard's works since 1935. Additionally, the theater's performance schedule, which runs mid-February to November, has expanded over the years to include productions of eight other plays by classic and contemporary playwrights. Just a block away, the Oregon Cabaret Theatre serves up gourmet dinners along with musicals, revues, and comedy shows in an elegant setting within a restored church on the National Historic Register.
On Main Street in downtown Ashland, a heady mix of old and new buildings house a variety of specialty bookstores and boutiques, coffee shops, restaurants such as Larks Restaurant at the historic Ashland Springs Hotel, and galleries displaying works by local artists. The nearby Mount Ashland Ski Area is heralded by skiers and snowboarders alike for its fluffy snow, panoramic views, and challenging terrain. Many of the mountains lifts and trails are named in honor of Ashland's beloved Shakespeare, with monikers such as Lower Romeo Run, Sonnet Lift, and Monster Truck Rally Way.

Traveler's Tips
- Soft mineral waters contain high alkaline and negative ions, giving them the power to soothe aching muscles and bolster the body's natural detoxification processes.
- Gasoline is expensive in Ashland. Fill up in nearby Medford instead.
- If the sulfur smell of the mineral water is bothersome, a scented candle can help diffuse the aroma.
- Arrive at the breakfast room before 9 a.m. for the best selection of hot items.
