Seeing live dancing can be a transcendent mind-body experience, akin to getting a tattoo underwater, or making out during an eclipse. Transcend boredom with today's Groupon: for $30, you get two tickets to any show in the 2010–11 season at the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, located downtown (a $60 value). You must redeem 24 hours before the show; this deal is good for the best available seats for a given performance.
The Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company has been performing innovative and award-winning works since 1964. There are four shows playing this season at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center and the Capitol Theatre:
- Configurations (September 23–25) is a contemporary dance that explores the works of four choreographers, including Bill T. Jones.
- Cipher (December 16–18) entertains with a multimedia project helmed by the theater's artistic director, with contributions from a local author and an architect.
- Circle Cycle (January 28–29) is a family-friendly visual feast, incorporating 200 white balloons, 24 hula hoops, 18 bouncing volleyballs, a giant weather balloon, and a youth choir made up of 70-year-old men wearing children masks.
- Alwin Nikolais Centennial (April 21–23) celebrates 100 years of Alwin Nikolais's multimedia work, which has inspired acts such as Blue Man Group, Cirque du Soleil, and Alan Alda.
