Almost anything can be improved with music, as evidenced by tuba-accompanied balcony serenades, operatic State of the Union addresses, and yodeled bank statements. Tune your ears to the sweet sounds on stage with today’s Groupon: for $17, you get a one-day general-admission ticket to the Kerrville Folk Festival, which will take place on the Quiet Valley Ranch on Highway 16 between Kerrville and Medina (up to a $35 value). Gates open at 9 a.m. Choose from the following Fridays:

  • May 27
  • June 3
  • June 10

Tucked within 50 unblemished acres in the peaceful hill-country valley, the Kerrville Folk Festival has spent nearly 40 years enchanting ears with an eclectic mix of folk, blues, country and Americana performances spread out across 18 melodious days. Music-lovers on May 27 can spend the evening air-tromboning along with Austin Klezmorim, known as one of the Southwest's oldest klezmer bands, or crooning along with Seth Glier, a gifted young piano plinker from western Massachusetts. Legendary member of Peter, Paul and Mary, Peter Yarrow, headlines the festivities on June 3 and Atlanta's Girlyman subvert its namesake on June 10 with muscular three-part harmonies and competitive bass-drum bench presses.

With a festival ticket, visitors can set up camp along Quiet Valley's lush 20-acre campground, drifting off to the distant tunes under starry skies before penning their own pastoral odes to gorgeous sun-soaked mornings. Although not included with this Groupon, weekly canoe trips ($20/adult) spurn aqueous sing-alongs down the Guadalupe River and offers rowers picturesque morning vistas. Sustenance and libations are available at the campground's Kerr-try Store and Kerr-Café, while showers and portable toilets ensure a roving band of musical mayflies don't set up a studio in one’s head-hide.

The Groupon Guide to: Adult Education

Even if you're older than society's agreed-upon college age, there's no reason not to broaden your horizons and learn more about the subjects that interest you. Don't waste time in a classroom, though—just follow these handy tips to become an expert in your chosen field:

  • Anthropology: Spend a year living with one of the thousands of undiscovered tribes of the Amazon. Make sure to bring a DVD player because a lot of what the tribesmen will be doing, such as hunting for food or having a unique culture, will be boring.
  • Microwave Repair: To fix a microwave, you must understand the microwave. Crawl inside yours and take a nap.
  • Architecture: Learn by doing—why not design and build the home of your dreams, which is just like your childhood bedroom but with a constantly shifting layout and all your ex-girlfriends are there riding pumas and you try to turn off the lights but you can't and your parents are there, too, and they're fighting, fighting like they always used to, and then the house turns into your office but it's not really your office, it's more like a spaceship but your boss is there.
  • Medicine: "Professional" doctors attend eight years of school before being granted their solid-gold graduation scalpel, but you can make your own doctoring kit out of rubber bands (useful for holding broken bones together), scotch tape (to reinforce the rubber bands), leeches (obvious), and powdered silver (to sprinkle on and heal all other maladies).
