A child shows early signs of creativity by artfully spilling ice cream and denying that a pacifier is a pacifier. Equip youngsters with more mature means of self-expression with today’s Groupon: for $37, you get three days of art instruction for kids ages 5–12 at Soda Tooth Contemporary Art Studios and Gallery in San Marcos (up to a $75 value).

Soda Tooth pries open kids’ inner paint buckets with three types of three-day summer art workshops in a variety of media. In the Experimental workshop, paint pros help tots get creative with contemporary art forms such as stop-motion animation, large-scale collaborative installations, and ambiguously worded text messages. Alternately, the Essential class tutors tykes in painting and drawing, and the Multi-Dimensional course lets them sculpt in paper, found wood and metal, or clay. Divided into two age groups, children absorb age-appropriate instruction from experienced instructors, most of whom are Texas State BFA graduates or reincarnations of Vincent Van Gogh. Each class of up to 12 students meets for approximately three hours per day, with breaks for gallery-provided snacks, juice, and creative vibes. Check the schedule for class dates.

Founded in 2010 by three Texas State art majors, Soda Tooth was featured in the San Marcos Daily Record for its role in the local art scene. The community-centered gallery space exhibits the work of local artists, hosts musical performances, and organizes impromptu poetry slams during emotionally charged city-council meetings.

Groupon Guide to: Elevator Etiquette

As more and more Americans develop allergic reactions to intimacy, you may find yourself infectiously close to others when forced to share an elevator. The next time you’re riding a steel disease trap with others, follow these tips to navigate the unpleasant vertical voyage with poise and style:

  • First things first, press all the buttons to make sure everyone gets to their floor.
  • Break the ice with a joke about who you would eat first if the elevator got stuck forever.
  • If no one in the elevator feels like talking, why not talk with the person on the other end of that phone behind the glass?
  • Just like the Internet, elevators also have like buttons. Push the red one with the helmet on it if you like firemen.
  • Impress potential romance partners with your vast knowledge of grisly, historical elevator accidents.
  • Promise you'll write your new friends after the journey by intuiting their addresses using a long, unbroken stare.
