On San Diego Whale Watch’s three-hour cruise, a certified marine biologist with 15 years of experience narrates as passengers spy gray whales, blue whales, and dolphins gamboling in their natural habitat. Cruises take place aboard the Privateer, a New England–style vessel that floats low to the water, granting pristine views of majestic aquatic beasts and easy access to spontaneous baths. The tidy boat seats 149 passengers in indoor and outdoor areas and includes a snack bar. While whales can be elusive and often leave the ocean on business trips, the experienced crew works hard to find them, and provides clients who don’t see whales with discounted vouchers for a second cruise. Visitors can moor their cars in free parking.

Gray whale sessions begin December 26 and end in June.
