For $80, today's side deal gets you a white-water-rafting excursion and complimentary lunch at Action Whitewater Adventures—located at Camp Lotus—which is approximately three hours from San Francisco (a $180 value). Rafting season is from March until October, when paddles migrate upstream to battle bears for their share of fish.
After a brief orientation, you'll gear up in brand-new vests and helmets before embarking on your paddle-powered river cruise. The Gorge section of the South Fork American River, from Lotus into Folsom, is 10 to 12 miles of calm waters and has Class III whitewater rapids, making it just right for rookie paddlers and experienced old salts alike. With trips available seven days a week, each excursion meets at noon and returns river barons to their land chariots at between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Participants also receive a complimentary gourmet deli lunch, which accommodates carnivores, vegetarians, and omnivores alike. Email to schedule your trip, and check out the list of what to bring for water wear and footwear, which is the same advice offered to AWA's campers.
All participants will be required to sign a liability release, express assumption of risk, and indemnity agreement.
