The cupcake, like the sponge cake and the refrigerator cake, is a delectable way to celebrate the inherent sweetness of all kitchenware. Today's Groupon honors cupcakes and the cups from which they blossom with a dozen baked confections for $15 at That Takes the Cake. One of San Francisco Style Unveiled's top-10 cupcakes in San Francisco, That Takes the Cake is located in the heart of the Union Street shopping district. Hand-frosted treats in a variety of uncommon flavors spread after-dinner hugs through a belly and its internal cake blog.

On the heels of 19th-century batter-sipping competitions came the delicious palm-sized pastries that finally gave renowned frosting chefs a worthy canvas for their sugary spreads. The husband and wife teammates at That Takes the Cake use fresh and all-natural ingredients for every tender bite of their signature morsels. Cake cravers swoon in the company of Alfred Hitchocolate vanilla cakes slathered in rich choco-buttercream frosting and rainbow jimmies, or carrot-cake Bunny Bites with cream-cheese frosting. That Takes the Cake offers a variety of tasty creations, including green-tea-flavored Lilly Pads with jackfruit buttercream and the red-velveteen crumbs of Gentlemen Prefer Reds cakes. Complete your dozen by picking the flavors of your choice, or upgrade your order to get the bakery's signature stuffed cupcakes by covering the cost of the difference ($0.33 per cake). That Takes the Cake is open Tuesday–Friday 11 a.m.–7 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m.–9 p.m., and Sunday noon–6 p.m.

An empty cupcake box is an affront to happiness. It will only leave one rushing out in the middle of the night for plastic-packaged imitation cakes that can't begin to satisfy a sophisticated sweet tooth. Surprise a loved one or a recent client of the Tooth Fairy not with dollar bills below pillows but with moist cupcakes gently placed upon slumbering faces.

  • Doritos Danny
  • H.I.G.H. F.U.N.C.T.I.O.N.I.N.G.
  • Dope John Paul II
