Before the stress of 60-hour weeks and indoor plumbing, Americans left work to compete in competitive go-karting. For $30, today's Groupon lets you return to a simpler time with $60 worth of go-karting at LeMans Karting in Fremont. Call ahead for reservations.
Feel the thrill of speed, power of velocity, and subversion of regular traffic laws on a curvy and swervy course. LeMans uses Sodi RX7 go-karts that run up to 40 miles per hour, which is faster than most animals and the speed of crying. Get to know your vehicle in 20 timed practice laps and in the company of up to 10 other drivers, an excellent way to acclimate to the road ($25). Hop into the sprint race for an exciting 5-minute qualifying session before lining up for a competitive 15-minute race ($40). Combine practice and a sprint race into one rubber-demolishing package ($60). Or go all the way with the triple-play package, which includes three timed trial races ($60). Since all karts at LeMans are created equal, skill is what separates the great drivers from the slightly-less-than-great drivers.
Go-karting is perfect for a group of speed-lusting friends, a fast-paced bachelorette party, or the celebration of a successful space-shuttle launch. All racers who are 18 or older must present a valid driver’s license, and 12–17-year-olds must first pass the training education of the Junior Racer's Program ($50). Unleash the driving spirit inside you and live a high-adrenaline lifestyle without working as a commercial trucker.
Reviews
80 Yelpers give LeMans Karting four stars:
- This place is pretty awesome. The karts hit 40mph in the straightaways, and tires handle the turns pretty well. Good assortment of helmets and race suits, and the karts are all well maintained... – Caleb L.
- I've been going to LeMans for about 2 years now, and I can honestly say that I LOVE this place! The staff has always been incredibly accommodating; they're such warm and welcoming people. – Sarah M.

Detective Speed, P.I.
This TV season, be sure to check out surefire hit Detective Speed, P.I. This race-themed action-adventure stars J. P. McDale as professional racecar driver and amateur detective Thom Speed: He Drives Fast, He Loves Fast, He Solves Mysteries at a Reasonable Pace Considering Mystery Solving Is a Hobby. Here are the synopses of the first three episodes:
Episode One, “Fast As Speed”: Thom expects to win the Pepsi Very Berry Fruit-Flavored Carbonated Energy Beverage 500, but he doesn’t expect racing teammate Neal to turn up dead. Thom knows the racing scene in a way the police never could, so he investigates the only way he knows how: inelegantly. Along the way, he fights (and flirts!) with lady policewoman Alexandra.
Episode Two, “Mystery at 100 mph”: After placing third in the Virginia’s Best 5-Hour Energy Cigarette Night Race, Thom is called to a meeting with his unforgiving owner, Mr. Clement. When Thom arrives, Clement is dead, and instead of calling the police, Thom investigates on his own for a while before calling the police. By chance, Thom catches the real killer and the sexual tension between he and that lady cop drives America insane.
Episode Three, “Tire Tracks”: During a photo shoot for his sponsor, Budler Low-Calorie Energy-cohol, Thom’s photographer turns up dead. Thom citizen-arrests his first suspect, then drives a racecar to make love with attractive female law officer Alexandra. Eventually, Thom forgets about the photographer’s murder.
