Popcorn can be flavored to taste like every food except itself—a quandary that has stymied philosophers for centuries. With today’s Groupon, your taste buds can savor the enigma: for $15, you get $30 worth of gourmet, flavored popcorn from POPtions! online plus a $6 flat shipping fee for anywhere in the U.S. (normally $12).
The discerning kernel connoisseur can choose from any of POPtions' tantalizing 2- or 3.5-gallon Pop du Jour and three-way combo tins. The popular Caramelt Crunch ($55 for a two-gallon tin) begins with a fluffy canvas of caramel-coated popcorn blended with pecans before being crowned with a mop-top of dark chocolate from venerable French chocolatier Bissinger’s. Toasted Rav ($35 for two gallons), meanwhile, serves up a radical blend of secret spices, tomato flavoring, and parmesan cheese. For chocoholics requiring their decadent daily fix, Over the Top ($50 for two gallons) might send you into a choco-coma with popcorn cooked and coated in a caramel recipe, then drenched in Bissinger’s dark chocolate and chocofied a second time with a generous drizzling of white chocolate. And if the Cheese Lovers tin's fromage à trois of cheddar, Buffalo bleu, and chipotle cheddar ($35 for two gallons) just isn't enough, truly plumb the depths of your personal popcorn psyche with a six-bag sampler pack of POPtions!'s most popular flavors, including caramel, Over the Top, ranch, kettle corn, cheddar, sugar and spice, and kittens with mittens ($30).
While a full POPtions! tin makes a scrumptious March Madness snack and an empty one a particularly cruel April Fool's gift, POPtions! can also cover the coming cavalcade of Mother's Day, Father's Day, graduations, summer birthdays, and the biggest holiday of the year—Burton Gilliam Day. For no extra charge, POPtions! will customize your lid with occasion-specific messages such as "Happy 80th Birthday, Son!" and "Sorry, thought the safety was on. Get well soon."
Bissinger's chocolate-drizzled popcorn can't be shipped between April 15 and September 15 due to warm weather.
Reviews
Sauce magazine raves about POPtions! in this podcast, while six Yelpers give 3.5 stars to the shop itself. Two Kudzu users give it five, and 87% of Urbanspooners like it:
- I ended up purchasing a mix bag of pizza pop and del-i-cious. Both were very tasty. The pizza pop has a little zing to it, and the del-i-cious has a really delectable sweet to it. Yum! – Gene Y., Yelp
- I'm ordering 10 tins next week for gifts. I think they need to make people sign a waiver though. You are responsible for your own popcorn consumption. – Heather B., Yelp
- Really awesome gourmet popcorn-not crappy, stale stuff you get in the supermarket. Totally fresh and tasty with wonderful gourmet flavors… – snackjunkie, Kudzu
Groupon Says
President Popcorn!
We were reading online about the many social and psychological benefits of consuming popcorn and happened across this essay written by Matty Quernish for Mrs. Jacobson's second-grade class at Franklin Pierce Elementary in Muncie, IN. Each student was assigned to write an essay on who would make the best president for these United States, but only Matty really seemed to nail it. Here's his essay in its entirety:
- Dear America. Hello! My name is Matty Quernish, I am 7 years old and I would like to nomanate [sic] a president who I think everyone would love...President Popcorn! By electing popcorn as president, we could solve the problems of America hunger by just eating parts of the president! Popcorn is quick and delicious, just like the president should be when passing laws. And finally, in my conclusion, popcorn may be sometimes be yellow in its color, but never in its courage. Vote Popcorn in 2005!
