The traditional method for preparing sushi requires slices of raw fish to be held over unlit fires in order to secure that signature “uncooked” flavor. Explore such innovative foodsmithing with today’s Groupon: for $12, you get $25 worth of sushi, specialty cocktails, and other sippables at Liberty Bar. Groupon customers dining in groups of 10 or more can also reserve the VIP room at no extra charge.

Though its extensive list of fancy cocktails, wine, beer, and spirits could intimidate, Liberty's welcoming interior and neighborhood vibe take the edge off the ordering experience so you can focus your attention on taking the edge off whatever experience brought you to the bar in the first place. Set your peepers loose on the menu of quality cocktails, ranging from old-fashioned classics such as the Makers Mark Manhattan (bourbon, sweet vermouth, and bitters; $7) to spruced-up shots such as the lady liberty (Stolichnaya vanilla, guava nectar, and blood orange puree; $8 for a cocktail, $4 for a shot). The French 75 cocktail provides a refreshing end to a long late-summer day with a sophisticated mix of gin, lemon juice, Cointreau, and champagne ($7). If you can't decide on a drink, ask one of the friendly bartenders for a suggestion after supplying them with information about your established flavor likes, mouthfeel dislikes, and indifferences about Luxembourgish pop duos in the ’90s. All specialty cocktails are made to order using freshly squeezed fruit juice and fitting quotations from the poetry of John Donne.

Balance your belly pond's ecosystem by introducing some tuna, yellowtail, salmon, shrimp, or crab sushi, served both in two-piece nigiri pairs ($4) and three-piece sashimi sets ($6). Liberty's late-night sushi selection (served until 2 a.m. every night) goes far beyond the basics, also offering creative vegetarian rolls such as the rainbow grocery, with cucumber, avocado, red pepper, mango, and cilantro ($5.50 for four pieces) and city-savvy bitables such as the 15th Ave. roll, with albacore, green onions, mayo, sesame, and spinach ($5.75 for six pieces).

Call ahead to reserve the VIP room if you are dining with nine or more other guests. Only one Groupon may be used in the VIP room.

Reviews

Citysearchers awarded Liberty Bar a Best of Citysearch award in 2008 for Neighborhood Bar. The Seattle Times and The Stranger featured the bar. More than one-hundred thirty-five Yelpers give the bar an average of four stars, and 88% of 94 Urbanspooners recommend it:

  • With its T-shirt-and-jeans, slouch-on-the-couch ambience, Liberty is a neighborhood bar where Seattle's cocktail fans also hang to chat about "pre-Prohibition-era drinks" with owner and bartender Andrew Friedman. – Seattle Times
  • Delicious drinks, good beer selection, and decent sushi to boot! I also love the local art covering the walls. – Matthew W., Yelp

Groupon Says

Dead to Rights

Few people know that Thomas Jefferson's first draft of the Declaration of Independence included more inalienable rights than life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. What other rights did Jefferson consider among the sovereign rights of man?

  • Compliments
  • Nights of sleep, uninterrupted by teenaged complaints or Frankenstein attacks
  • Pumpkin festivals
  • Shoes into which oxygen can be pumped to foster a more perfect fit and accommodating comfort level
  • Revenge upon that coward John Adams
