Although soaring through the trees at high speeds is a great way to find yourself, without the guidance of a zipline, that self might also be found by the impenetrable trunk of an oak tree. Avoid an abrupt end to sky-high soul searching with today’s Groupon to Eco Zipline Tours in New Florence, about 90 minutes west of St. Louis. Choose one of the following treetop zipline tours:

  • $19 for the Easy Rider Tour (a $40 value)
  • $29 for the Easy Rider Haunted Tour (only available on weekends, a $60 value)
  • $49 for the High Flyer Night Tour (only available on weekends, a $100 value)

Adventuresome tourists get an elevated view of nature at Eco Zipline Tours, which offers a total of 10 ziplines to guide guests through the upper levels of dogwood, hickory, maple, and many more flavors of tree. After a quick trip on the learner cable and a few “how to” tips concerning brakes, hand signals, and time travel, customers can choose from three different zipline routes. The Easy Rider Tour, which is an ideal choice for newcomers, covers four ziplines in a little less than an hour, never venturing more than 30 feet above the earth. Both the Easy Rider Haunted Tour (ages five and up), a spookier rendition of the original Easy Rider, and the High Flyer Night Tour (ages 15 and up), which lifts riders up to 200 feet in the air and rockets them through all 10 ziplines at up to 50 miles an hour in thrilling darkness, are ideal for those who relish nocturnal frights on the weekend. Participants in either of these tours will don a lighted helmet, navigate trails enlivened by strobes and ghoulish sound effects, and zip through a course filled with realistic gargoyles and creatures such as a Wolfman and a chainsaw-wielding madman.

Eco Zipline Tours is dedicated to safety—all cables are inspected daily, two experienced guides accompany each group, and safety harnesses, helmets, and gloves are supplied to all riders. Constructed by the professional zipliners at Universal Zipline Technology, the treetop courses are designed to keep customers completely safe while guaranteeing that the trees live full, rewarding lives. Reservations are required, so call or email ahead to schedule a guided flight through the forest and above ravines, creeks, and foxes reaching up to tickle your toes.

The Haunted Easy Rider and High Flyer Night Groupons are only available on weekend evenings through October 31. All riders must sign a liability release form, and cancellations must be made at least seven days in advance.

Groupon Says

Going Down

Ziplines are especially eco-friendly vehicles because they're powered by the earth's most ubiquitous source of energy—gravity. What are some other vehicles powered by clean-burning, cheap, renewable gravity?

  • Unmanned Winnebago toppling off the edge of a butte
  • Abandoned motorcycle tumbling down a sand dune
  • Discarded plastic tricycle nudged off observation deck of the Space Needle
  • Helicopter dropped from loading bay of larger helicopter
  • Honorable mention: Space Shuttles only require fuel to go up.
