This Groupon saws the price of a magic show ticket in slightly more than half—magically, without breaking the skin, harming the vital organs, or causing paper-blood. See Glenn Gary's Parlor Magic, a spectacular evening of "cabaret magic," an intimate, close-up type of abracadabra performed for small crowds with audience participation (shows are limited to 40 guests).

Glenn Gary, the past president of the Society of American Magicians, and secret actual wizard, is a seasoned illusionist who has been named Best Stage Manipulation and Best of Competition by the Magician's Alliance of Eastern States and reached Level 49 in his studies at the Invisible Academy of the Unblinking Eye.

During the show, he performs sleights of hands so sleight it's as if they were performed with slightly otherworldly, invisible hands. See Glenn Gary make an egg disappear, link unlinkable solid-steel rings, teleport coins from one hand to the other, and levitate an object above the stage. Glenn Gary has magical powers-of-the-mind and can tell audience members what they're thinking and who they're thinking about, even when they're thinking about being buried alive by carpenter ants.

Shows are every Wednesday and Friday night at 8 p.m. at The Westin Hotel, making it the perfect start to the perfect evening with perfect people using imperfect grammar when they share perfect tales about minor league baseball. Check ahead for availability; this Groupon is valid for any show, but performances sell out quickly.

Reviews

Some Washington Post readers left reviews on Glenn Gary's Parlor Magic's listing, and some audience members left comments that he posted to his site:

Magic vs. Magick

Magic is the art of illusion, usually used for purposes of entertainment and deception, not to be confused with magick, defined by occultist and original Black Sabbath manager Aleister Crowley as “the science and art of causing change to occur in conformity with the will.” What are some of the differences between magic and magick?

Magic is used to delight the young and young at heart with a humorously narrated card trick.
Magick is used to keep that blowhard Erasmus Stodgewell from acquiring the Orb of Osiris.

Magic is performed by skilled artists and craftsman who tirelessly practice to perfect their seamless illusions.
Magick is performed by heavily whiskered men in leather armchairs and college students who are outraged they banned blood-vial necklaces on Etsy.

Magic may feature a well-trained white tiger, to lend oomph to a spectacular stage stunt.
Magick teaches that animals are not to be kept in bondage, for within them dwells the spirit of the All-Mother, and as before shall be again, what is not born can never end.
