You're checked into your hotel, you've put on the complimentary robe, and you've locked your things in the safe. Now what? If the pool is closed and you'd rather pass on the fitness center, you can download these free travel apps for iPhone and Android. Each might help your vacation go a little smoother, or might help you maintain a sense of well-being while on a whirlwind trip.

Stayconnect

What it does: You've probably heard that the dirtiest item in a hotel room is the remote control. Bypass having to use it with the Stayconnect app, which pairs your smartphone or tablet with the hotel room TV. That way, you can use your device to change the channel or turn up the volume. You should even be able to use Stayconnect to request room service.

Calm

What it does: This meditation app helps you find a little inner peace after a stressful day at the airport, road rage on the highway, or any other less-than-ideal travel scenario. If you've never meditated before, Calm takes you step-by-step through the process with guided narration. Just find a comfy spot on your bed or your ergonomic chair, focus on your breath, and find mindfulness.

Sworkit

What it does: Helps you burn calories from inside your hotel room. If you're worried about putting on a couple of pounds on vacation, use Sworkit, an exercise app with easy-to-follow videos that guide you through a number of workouts. Power skip around the room during an intense cardio session, or stretch past the mini-bar and into a downward facing dog with the app's yoga workout.

White Noise Free

What it does: Pumps in soothing noises, making it one of the best travel apps if your hotel neighbors are noisy around bedtime. With the White Noise Free app, you can mask any unwanted sounds with the chirping of birds in the Amazon jungle, the crackle of a campfire, or waves crashing along the beach. In addition to five types of white noises, the app comes with 40+ sounds, including some rather odd options, including a blowing hair dryer and a dishwasher rinsing. Whatever helps you sleep!

Groupon

What it does: Ahem, well, the Groupon app is full of deals on things to do across the country. So as you're sitting in your hotel room, trying to plan the next day of your trip, you can use Groupon to find restaurants, activities, and even a nearby spot for a massage—travel can do a number on those back muscles, after all.
