After meeting in a yoga class, JP and Cassie McClellan went on to earn certification from the government of India in classical yoga, a qualification they draw on today as they lead yoga classes that incorporate modern innovations. JP's background includes a stint at Plum Village, the monastery of zen master Thich Nhat Hanh. Cassie has practiced yoga since her late teens, and her practice went from a luxury to a life-long necessity after a car accident.
As certified Baptiste Power yoga instructors, the McClellans teach students Baron Baptiste's approach to yoga, which borrows from an array of yoga styles such as Bikram and Iyengar. Inside their heated studio, JP and Cassie guide students through a 60- to 90-minute sequence that was designed to condition NFL athletes, helping to tone their bodies, strengthen their minds, and soothe their shoulder pads. Their 1,200-square-foot studio boasts green initiatives such as LEED-certified paints and cork and bamboo floors that are soft on the feet.
