Ashiatsu massage is no ordinary modality. The therapist spends much of her time essentially dancing between the massage table and the client. Braced by parallel bars secured to the ceiling, she glides her feet along the client's body to achieve deep-pressure strokes. The broad, flat surface of the foot evenly distributes this pressure, making for a more comfortable iteration of deep-tissue massage.
Advanced Ashiatsu's Rhonda Kachilla is a bona fide expert in this method, having completed all levels of training under the founder of ashiatsu oriental bar therapy. She was likely the first to bring the style to Austin back in 2008. The therapist even detailed her hygiene regimen and off-duty foot care in the Austin American-Statesman: "My feet are very special to me. They're softer than my hands," she confessed.
