Sometimes you want to go where you know every farmer's name. Barton Creek Farmers Market, which has been drawing a wealth of local farmers for nearly two decades, is just such a place. Frequent visitors get to know the specialties of each longtime vendor; the aquaponics experts of Lilypad Farms harvest both tilapia and heirloom vegetables from their innovative waters. Elsewhere at the market, Twin County Lamb makes all-natural soaps that come in refreshing outdoor scents, and Dan Rohrer of both Love Creek Apple Orchard and Rocky Hill Orchard transports a variety of apples to his portable stands.
Farmers aren't the only regulars at the market. Local artisans frequent the weekly event, including Mae-Mae Styles of M Squared Jewelry, and Denniger Bolton of Javalina Books. Musicians such as bluegrass-folk-jazz fusion duo The Better Halves help set the soundtrack to the shopping excursion, and a children's petting zoo keeps youngsters entertained.
