A culinary gem, Tamale House in Austin is a hugely-popular spot for a flavorful menu. The reasonable prices allow customers to focus on what matters: the perfect quality.
Thanks to its outdoor seating, the restaurant is a fantastic option when the Hill Country weather is nice. Streetwear attire is acceptable, so feel free to come as you are. Also, in addition to its low prices, this won't exactly be the place to earn credit card points (it's cash-only). In fact, you should be able to enjoy a good meal for $11 or $12, and can probably get in and out for $8 if you try.
At some point, everyone should try the migas, the huevos rancheros, or the carne guisada, since all three stand out. For those watching what they eat, the menu does feature vegetarian items. If you're in a hurry, you can call ahead and take advantage of the convenient take-out menu.
A breakfast and lunch staple in the community for nearly 40 years, Tamale House is definitely a good call. Don't worry about trying to find a spot on the street, as visitors to the restaurant do have access to a private parking lot nearby.
