About Buena Vista Museum of Natural History & Science
Lions, tigers, and kangaroos await kids and adults alike at the Buena Vista Museum of Natural History & Science. However, the museum isn't a zoo. Standing shoulder to shoulder and as large as life, the taxidermied animals can give a brief reprieve to those with the natural history bug. And the museum's 16,000 sq.ft. of exhibits are home to more than specimens of currently living critters. A fully articulated extinct sea lion hangs above the floorboards, and situated in the museum are world-class Miocene—14-16 million year old—fossils with hundreds of teeth from now-extinct sharks—the teeth excavated from the Sharktooth Hill area. The museum also displays a large and diversified collection of African, Asian, and North American animal exhibits. Guests can also explore a life size interpretive Native American family dwelling area, gems and minerals, petrified woods, and a hands-on interactive science discovery center.
