Inside the CrossFit 661 facility, a stockpile of barbells, kettle bells, medicine balls, benches, and truck tires awaits members who are determined to achieve their fitness goals. Head trainer Charles and his crew lead each class, correcting technique and shouting encouragement as clients perform the workout of the day. This ever-changing routine builds all major muscle groups, which helps people carry out everyday tasks such as lugging heavy groceries or running away from people who ask for help moving. Since the exercises are scalable—meaning they can be adjusted to suit anyone from a senior citizen just starting out to an elite athlete—all students who exert themselves can expect improvements their in strength, balance, endurance, and agility.
