Acropolis has been a Baltimore Greek Food establishment for years but have not been there for a while. Not only is the food and service still wonderful, it is better then I can remember and with a nice Groupon this was a bargain. Wife & I had just been to MT Car Show @ Convention Center and had 7:00 reservations...running late but no problem. Our server was wonderful and attentive. She gave great advice and when uncertain she would ask the kitchen. We started with the grilled calamari and it was fresh, tender and a huge portion, perfectly seasoned with a blend of olive oil and garlic but not overbearing. Further, a ladle full of homemade marinara was requested by me and brought for dipping. Wife had the appetizer of open face Lamb sandwich which included Greek salad & dressing, gyro bread, tzaki (sic) sauce, two demontes (sic) grape leaves wrapped around rice with a dollop of lemon sauce). Keep in mind this was on the menu as an appetizer but presented as a full meal. for only $10.95. The slices of gyro lamb was generous and well seasoned. I had the chicken kabobs (two skewers) of marinated and grilled goodness with the same sides plus a huge portion of Greek potatoes. On a cold Feb. evening all food came out hot and not one negative incident. Even made a fresh pot of wonderful coffee for the wife and my water glass was always filled. We needed two boxes to take home leftovers and cannot praise Acropolis and our server enough and we will be back. Yes Baltimore, there are other fantastic Greek restaurants other then the big "I" and the one that rhymes with Tamos. :-)

From Our Editors

The chefs at Acropolis Restaurant fill the menu with classic and contemporary Greek dishes. Grilled octopus and spicy feta dip whet appetites for shrimp saganaki with melted kasseri cheese, vegetarian moussaka, and house specialties such as lamb giouvetsi, which simmers braised lamb with string beans, tomatoes, wine, and herbs. Cups of Greek coffee or wines from California, Greece, and Italy complement each meal, which are served at tables lit with a soft glow cast by candles in blue holders. Cool blue and off-white walls hold up framed paintings of Mediterranean vistas, and clean white tablecloths give guests a sense of elegance and a place to win hide-and-seek.
