We had a blast!! The more people you bring, the better I think it would be. We were only a group of 4 so we were disappointed to be put with children who were pretty scared, but we still had a blast. The bachelor and bacheloret parties on the river were taking fun to a new level!

Really allow ample time to get to the place. We got lost for about 45 min. NEOC was really accommodating and everyone was really nice. The whitewater rafting experience was awesome. Our guide was great...really knowledgeable and accommodated.

It was a great experience! However, it was a rainy day when we went, Sat. Aug. 16 so a bit cold even wearing wet suits. It was fun and a bit mild, the white water, for the first half of the day but the 2nd half of day, it got wilder. My 13 year old daughter was proud she could do both parts of the day long. The guides were friendly, informed, and well trained in guiding and pulling folks out of the water, which happens.

This trip was everything I expected and more. The guide we had, Arthur, was incredibly friendly, knowledgable, fun and just made the whole experience that much better. I would absolutely recommend this trip and especially Arthur.

From Our Editors

The northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail lies at the foot of Mount Katahdin. Beneath the mountain's silhouette, moose graze along the shorelines, and eagles roam the skies above Baxter State Park's chromatic woods. Nearby, outdoorsmen and environmental enthusiast Matt Polstein has unveiled the area's natural beauty and abundant adventure opportunities for more than 30 years through the New England Outdoor Center.

During the early summer through fall, Polstein’s team leads whitewater-rafting adventures on the Penobscot River. The raucous waterway possesses a stretch that drops 70 feet per mile through a narrow, granite-walled canyon into Class V rapids with monikers such as Exterminator and Cribworks. Further excursions include trips on the Family Float trips appropriate for kids as young as age 4. Come winter, Polstein rents snowmobiles so guests can zoom across the area's powdery expanses, perhaps to catch a view of the Northern Lights.

In addition to the plentiful year-round activities, New England Outdoor Center encompasses dining and lodging facilities, including cabins, green-built guesthouses, and campgrounds.
