What a wonderful relaxing environment. Not only do you see interesting animals, but you get exercise and fresh air under the big sky of Montana.

Being late in the year and a week day, we didn't have any crowds to deal with. However, the habitats had the water out of the pools and were being prepped for winter. There isn't a lot of animals to see but the ones we did see were beautiful. The bears weren't anywhere to be seen, which was a slight disappointment.

This is a small zoo with just a small selection of animal. However, it has natural habitats and long walking paths. I great place to kids to play on playground or enjoy a walk.

Zoo Montana offers an enjoyable experience. It's close to town so one can come out for a short time to enjoy the surroundings and the animals but it's also worth the drive to come from any distance.

Very nicely laid out small zoo. Lovely grounds. Very enjoyable for our group of 7. The playground was especially fun for the 4 kids.

From Our Editors

The Northern Hemisphere is always changing, and its varied plant and animal life must deal with the extremes of both hot and cold weather. ZooMontana celebrates these resilient creatures. Trees and shrubs—many not native to the Montana area—surround exhibits, where more than 50 animal species make their homes. Here are just a few of the zoo's stars:

Grizzly Bears

  • Names: Bruno and Ozzy
  • Scientific name: Ursus arctos
  • Natural habitat: North America
  • Often seen: Eating nuts, berries, fruits, leaves, and roots

Siberian Tiger

  • Name: Prince
  • Scientific name: Panthera tigris altaica
  • Natural habitat: Far northeast of Asia
  • Often seen: Lounging out on a ledge during a sunny day

Canada Lynx

  • Name: Fierca
  • Scientific name: Lynx canadensis
  • Natural habitat: Northern United States and Canada
  • Often seen: Walking with zookeepers for exercise; in winter, visitors can see her paw prints in the snow
