Therapeutic Massage Therapy
Neuromuscular, or deep tissue massage therapy
NMT is a deep tissue massage addressing trigger points in tight and painful muscles to dramatically relieve pain. This can be integrated with Swedish techniques to include the rest of the body. This is especially beneficial for anyone with pain.
Athletes, dancers, and people with physically demanding professions often need specific care to stay fine tuned. Sports massage can address problem areas and energize the body for the optimum performance.
Manual Lymph Drainage
MLD gently flushes the lymph pathways to drain local areas of swelling. It releases stagnant fluids and promotes more efficient circulation. The use of alternating hot and cold stones can be added to this technique to promote even more circulatory assistance. This is especially beneficial pre and post surgery or after acute injury.
Pregnancy, Birthing and post Partum Massage
As a birth coach or doula, I work with Moms (and Dads too), during the amazing and emotionally complex journey of bringing new life into the world. I have attended approximately 100 births offering the laboring mom support with massage techniques and coaching. I am also certified in Infant Massage, and teach that to new Moms and Dads.
This is a remarkable system that stimulates nerve points, resetting the body to heal itself. It is especially beneficial in addressing physical or emotional trauma and range-of-motion difficulties..
Neuro Structural Integration
NST is similar to traditional Bowen work, but employs a different series of nerve stimulating patterns. It can also provide added solutions to problems that don't respond fully to Bowen work.
Active Isolated Stretching
AIS is a complex system of assisted stretching that uses muscle energy principles to effectively open range-of- motion in every joint in the body. This is beneficial for people who have especially tight bodies, and tend to resist stretching on their own. The after effects are as energizing and relaxing as massage.
This system of emphasizes the reflex points on the hands and feet, which directly correspond to other parts of the body in distress. This is especially beneficial for people who work on their feet or have foot problems.
CST is a very light touch technique with origins in Osteopathy. It connects to the deepest rhythms of the cranial and spinal fluids and is most helpful for head injuries and for old traumas that are held in the nervous system.
This is the most traditional form of relaxing massage that increases whole body circulation, relaxation, and awareness.
Hot Stone Massage
Heated volcanic stones in my hands are a wonderfully soothing addition while working with chronicly tight muscles. Please ask for hot stones when you make your appointment.
I teach new moms and dads to massage their new baby as part of the bonding process. It is a wonderful way to help your new child discover their body and learn to relax.
Our animals have the same tendencies to injury and over use soreness as we do. The Bowen Technique for large and small animals is called Equine Muscle Release Technique and Cat and Canine Muscle Release Technique. It has been adapted for horses, dogs and cats, to stimulate their natural healing capacities. As with Bowen for people, it can correct restrictions and misalignments in the connective tissue, restoring balance to the different systems in the body. In situations were both animal and their owner have similar physical issues, and I find it is helpful to give both of you a session at the same time. In situations were both animal and human guardian have the same physical issues, and I find it is helpful to treat both of you at the same time.
SE or Somatic Experiencing
The many forms of trauma overwhelm different parts of our bodies and souls. By bringing awareness to sensation, emotion, images, movements and the meanings we ascribe to these events, things that have been frozen into the past can be released.
Early traumas influence how our bodies and personalities develop. There are ties between developmental stages and certain muscle groups, and working with those areas of the body can help restore missing resources for confidence.
Hellinger Constellation Work
By linking current life situations (like illness, depression, relationship difficulties or career problems) with hidden family and generational patterns, you can separate your story from that of your ancestors. This method provides a living map of the complexity of family and other interpersonal dynamics, and is an exceptionally effective way of helping individuals, couples and families experience new ways of relating.
Tied into the deepest suffering are distorted beliefs about who we are, and whether we belong here. By holding points on the palm, the connections between the negative beliefs and the physical dis-ease can be re-wired for positive potential and freedom.
TRE or Trauma Releasing Exercises
By doing a series of gentle exercises, that stimulate the release of held tensions, you can be empowered to release trauma on your own. The goal of all trauma work is a self-regulating resilience.
Because homeopathic remedies also have both physical symptoms and a distinct psychological profile, these modalities are also very helpful revealing deeper roots to the problem, as well as speeding up your healing process.
Mind-Body Bowen applies the traditional Bowen technique in a slightly different way. Because Bowen works directly with the nervous system, it has a unique ability to connect our emotional issues to our physical discomfort. The trauma can become frozen in cellular memory, and interfere with one of our basic resources: resilliance. The Bowen "moves" provide a catalyst for the body to process the traumatic reactions both physically and emotionally, restoring greater peace and creativity.
Higher Alignment Relationship Coaching
There are many layers of our personality that can be defined in a relationship profile. This gives a couple a way to see their differences in an objective way that does not place blame, but names different styles of perception and character. Co-creativity in many areas of life can be cultivated with communication skills, empathy and trust.
What are the origins of Homeopathy?
The roots of Homeopathy go back to Hippocrates, the ancient Greek "Father of Medicine". In his writings Hippocrates mentioned two methods of healing: one by "contraries", and one by "similars". Samuel Hahnemann, a German doctor (1755-1843), translated many ancient medical texts, reviving the methods of "similar" medicines into the modern system we know as Homeopathy. It is a highly respected system of holistic science that has been practiced throughout the world for centuries.
How do "similar" or "contraries" work?
Homeopathic remedies are "similars", and are comprised of minute dilutions of substances that subtly imitate the problem, stimulating the body to heal itself, thus the phrase "like cures like". Allopathic medicine employs "contraries", using different types of medicines and surgeries to suppress symptoms. The use of a "remedy" or a "similar" helps stuck symptoms move through the natural stages of healing rather than stopping them.
How does Homeopathy define disease?
Symptoms of disease pose limitations to our mental, emotional, and/or physiological well being. Homeopathy recognizes these symptoms as expressions of the body in distress; if properly listened to, they can provide clues to the cure. Acute diseases produce fever, pain, discharges, and often a change in disposition, and are easier to address. Chronic dis-eases produce symptoms that are degenerative, and require greater effort and more time to unravel their layers because of their complexity.
How does Homeopathy define health?
Health is freedom on all levels of our being: Physical, psychological, and emotionalwhen all components of our being are working in sync to optimize the quality of our lives.
What does "constitutional" mean?
Our "constitution" is our inherited body type, with patterns of strengths and weaknesses passed down from previous generations. A "constitutional remedy" is a remedy that attempts to cover the individual patterns of your condition as well as what stands out about you as a unique individual.
What is a Homeopathic Remedy?
Homeopathic remedies originate from substances extracted from the natural worldfrom animals, plants, and mineralsmany of which have proven successful over centuries of practice. They are prepared in a special process of dilution and succussion (shaking), that changes the properties from bio-chemical (as in herbal tinctures) to bio-energetic. They are highly diluted to remove any possible toxicity. Altogether, there are more than 2,500 Homeopathic remedies. A well chosen remedy, working on the principle of "like cures like," can be very powerful and long lasting.
My unique approach to the use of Homeopathic Remedies:
I work with you, paying close attention to your difficulties in an attempt to discover the ideal remedy. Together we look for the unique patterns expressed in your condition. What circumstances produced the problem? When did it begin? What makes it better or worse? Your dreams, your habits, your thoughts and feelings: all these may reveal something about your discomfort, and help me discover the right remedy. Using massage and mind-body therapies together with Homeopathy is another way to discern the roots of problem and to help alleviate it.
How is a Homeopathic remedy different from conventional medicine?
Rather than using modern diagnostic techniques, and disease labels employed by allopathic medicine, the homeopathic practitioner is more interested in the patient's subjective experience of the problem. Homeopathic treatment addresses both the common and unusual symptoms a person is experiencing. The person's attitudes and emotions can be integral components of the problem and may also provide valuable clues to discovering the correct remedy. After careful study, each Homeopathic remedy is custom selected for you, to address the totality of your symptoms and constitution.
What can I expect?
You can expect to feel better. When the correct remedy is given, it can work very quickly and dramatically to help your body heal the problem, especially when the problem is acute. If your difficulty is chronic, the process may take more time. In either case, it is not uncommon for the remedy to intensify the symptoms before they are neutralized. This is followed by gradual improvement as the body does what it needs to do to clear up old unresolved issues, and re-establish balance and wholeness.
How many sessions are required for results?
An acute remedy can take hours, or even several weeks to produce desired results. A constitutional remedy may require a second session within six weeks to evaluate progress. Subsequent treatments may be necessary depending upon results. There are many factors that influence the rapidity of healing: your hereditary vitality, the severity of the condition, the nature and quality of previous drugs taken, and persistent lifestyle choices that can present obstacles to healing. Homeopathy can also work with you as a complementary support if you are under Allopathic care for the condition.
My goals and commitment as a Homeopathic practitioner:
I do my best to respectfull address your difficulty in the context of you as a whole person, to help your body heal itself, using the best possible choice of Homeopathic Remedies, supported by Massage therapy, Body-Mind Psychotherapy. . .and prayer for the blessing of Almighty God, the Great Physician.

Wow, where to even start with Kat! My partner and I recently did a couples healing body work session with her, and to say it shifted my relationship is an understatement. We are in our young thirties and expecting a baby. Things have been stressful, and our relationship was beginning to take a hit from lack of connection and communication. Going into this session, neither of us knew what to expect. Kat has a way of making you feel comfortable in the most vulnerable of situations. She is truly gifted in making it a safe place to communicate things that may be hard. I can hardly put into words the work she did in just over an hour. Between her words and touch, my partner and I felt connected again at the end of the session. The benefits weren't just apparent that day, almost a month later and we are still reaping the benefits of this session. After we left, my partner said he "was moved". We will definitely be keeping up with our sessions with Kat.

I have been a client of Kat Shea for six years. I have seen her for a multitude of problems including chronic back issues and for the treatment of a rare, debilitating auto-immune disorder. I've walked into her house hurting so much that I could barely climb the three steps to her front door and I left smiling. Kat has magic hands with an unerring instinct to identify the problem and assuage the pain. Apart from that, she is a great soul with boundless energy and compassion, a most remarkable woman.Robert Dresner

Me And My Family. My family has been recieving Kat Shea's wonderful healing talents for many years. Her ability to find and focus her talents to your pain is extraordinary. In the last two years I have seen more of her to help me through a car accident and subsequent surgery. She is uncanny to relieve pain at the very source. She also helped with the emotional and actual stresses of healing after an accident, the legal issues, and the healing process. Kat gave the most clarified report to the insurance company of all the doctors I had swarming around. She also brought on the most productive healing for me. Thanks to you Kat, and we will see you again in two weeks!

Real Help. Finding a skilled massage therapist and an authentic, humble healer can be challenging, especially given the expanse of spiritual materialism and plethora of self-proclaimed gurus currently in the area, so discovering Kat Shea's healing work has been simultaneously a relief and a true blessing. Whether you are seeking support for physical training and athletic endeavors, searching to alleviate nagging chronic conditions, or working through difficult emotional or traumatic events, Kat has both the skill and wisdom to meet your needs should you endeavor to actively engage in a therapeutic process with her. I initially sought her services to support my training for endurance athletic events. Our work not only effectively enabled my physical health and conditioning, she also facilitated a healing process of some old emotional trauma. I am grateful to have been referred to Kat and I will continue to work with her.

Divinely Inspired. Kat is magic. Or rather divinely inspired. Her intuitive wisdom is unsurpassed. Her mind, body, spirit, heart and soul all seem to be completely unified to touch the mind, body, spirit, heart and soul of the recipient. That depth of personal integrity and evolved wisdom make for a session that leaves one feeling, nourished, healed, touched, and held. It's a pure blessing to receive Kat's prayerful, healing touch.

Sacred Healing. It is with a sense of great humility that I undertake the privilege of sharing with others the extraordinary skill and depth of character, of healer, par excellence, Kat Shea. I have had the great pleasure of experience Kat's healing hands and heart many, many times. She is not only versed in multiple body healing modalities, but she seems to have brains at the tips of her supple, warm hands. She intuitively knows where to go, what pressure to exert and what techniques to use. Recently, I had an outbreak of shingles, but was clueless as to what was going on. I only knew that my inner thigh muscle was in nearly constant spasm, preventing me from walking normally, and making it nearly impossible to sleep. After a session with Kat, so much of the pain was gone and didn't return. The difference was astonishing, and when I found out that, indeed, the culprit was Shingles, I was even more impressed with her masterful touch. To be in Kat's hands, is to enter into a sanctuary of sacred healing. She is one of the truly gifted healers among us. ~Miriam

Very Grateful! Kat has an amazing healing gift and a tremendous understanding of the spirit/ soul/ body connection. Kat Shea is magical. She has done everything from relieving sciatica pain (with Bowen technique and massage), to curing me of reoccurring bouts of malaria (homeopathy), to making me feel very supported during a challenging pregnancy (talking with me and the baby), to kick starting my contractions after they had stalled out mid-labor. She has a gift for understanding what you and your body need and then tailoring what she offers to precisely meet you. She works out of a beautiful stone cottage at the base of Dakota Ridge in North Boulder, so a trip to see her is a treat in and of itself.

I got to know Kat in July 2014 when I attended the Dance of Adolescence training by Melissa Michaels in Boulder. I was fortunate enough to stay with her for a few days. Just being in her presence, driving up and down the mountain every day and talking about everything from the trivial to the sacred, forever changed me. Below is just one of the wonderful adventures we shared... It's close to midnight. Kat is planting a hibiscus in her garden given to her by a friend. It's a new moon. The air is cool and the neighbourhood is quiet. I'm mostly there for moral support as Kat knows her way around gardens. As we spread the last of the soil around the hibiscus Kat says a prayer and tells the plant that this spot will be its new home and it may bloom as planned. Which is soon. Apparently nobody plants this time of year. I am transported to another world where I had a grandmother telling me stories about the bible in a sacred and reverent way. Stories with magical mystery and practical application. Like planting a hibiscus at the wrong time of the year. There's a certain beauty in living this way. Deeply faith-full and filled with reverence for all of life and yet also practical and steadfast in being fully human. I admire this in Kat. She reminds me of all the wonderful things Christianity brought to humankind. She lives and breathes the ancient teachings and true Christ consciousness. That is what I learned tonight gardening under the stars. There is never a wrong time for anything. And that is why we pray and invoke goodness and faith in everything we do, especially when it seems ill-timed, wrong or awkward. May the hibiscus come to full bloom in its own time.

I first met Kat in 2001 after I was hit by a drunk driver (for the second time in my life) at the age of 20. Kat not only tended to my physical injuries, she helped me sort through the emotional trauma I was also dealing with. Over the next 3 years, I found solace and refuge as I continued to work with Kat to heal both physically and emotionally. Our sessions ended in 2004 when I moved out of state. I never forgot Kat, and I've never met anyone else with her amazing capabilities. During a visit to Boulder in 2014, I was able to reconnect with Kat and have an amazing massage and reunion with one of the most passionate, engaging, and love-filled people I have ever met. Kat is truly a blessing.

"Kat Shea is the best! After a rollover car accident, I was examined by Urgent Care and told I had no broken bones but I was bruised and shaken and would benefit from a series of massages. Kat's name was given to me. That was 1999 and I have been a devoted and regular client since then. Kat is skilled, thorough and highly professional. I recommend her unequivocally."

"I had the good fortune of receiving a gift to have a massage when I was going through my chemo treatments. Having met Kat through a mutual friend, a doctor no less, I began going to her Healing Arts practice. Although I'd never had a massage before, Kat's kindness, good listening ear and supportive demeanor combined with her skill in treating my body has remained one of my most treasured experiences from that challenging time. I have been seeing her monthly for seven years now and would be reluctant to have another give me a massage. Kat Shea knows my body, mind and soul through her careful healing touch. Believing so strongly in her ability caused me to share this through a gift certificate so another could benefit from her Healing Arts practice."

Kat Shea is a true Old World Healer. Her voracious thirst for knowledge, both medical/scientific and spiritual/soulful means she approaches each client with an extraordinary holism that is rare, even for practitioners who call themselves 'holistic'. She is a deep listener with profound structural knowledge of the human body as well as the human psyche and the myriad points of connection which allow for true health and vitality. She is a community health care practitioner, tending to entire families, keeping an eye out for the health of the system as a whole, while tending intimately to each unique part. She develops in-depth tapestries of wisdom for each client she sees so everything new lands in a context of wholeness which she tends to diligently. My entire family and most of my close community are tended to by Kat Shea, and this will be true as long as Kat is seeing clients.
