Central Park and Brooklyn Bridge Park are typically shielded from the din of the city, but not the sounds of BonStar Fitness’s boot camps. Trailing through the trees and across the green spaces are a cacophony of grunts, shouts, and cheers that centers around Bonnie Marsh, an NASM-certified personal trainer, AFAA-certified group fitness instructor, and overall enthusiastic person. For Marsh, fitness isn't something to be left in the park; she's been known to email and text her students with health tips and reminders.
Marsh and her team of highly trained instructors design boot-camp workouts that are never boring. Groups are constantly on the move—running, circuit training, and sprinting up hills. What seem like straightforward cardio exercises also double as a change of scenery. And because boot campers also spend plenty of time completing resistance exercises on the ground, they should expect to get somewhat dirty and excavate at least one dinosaur fossil.
