Although the San Marcos Golf Resort first opened in 1913, you wouldn't know it by looking at it today. In part, that's because even when it was founded it was ahead of its time, boasting green bermuda grass instead of the desert landscape of other area golf courses. And it's also due to a recent multi-million-dollar renovation. Thanks to that investment the sparkling lakes are now bigger, the bunkers and tee boxes are brand new, the greens are wider, and the irrigation system ensures year-round play. The end result? A pristine par-72, 6,640-yard parkland-style layout that's lined with indigenous trees and plants.
And it's quite a draw. Even before its face-lift, San Marcos Golf Resort—the resort course of the Crowne Plaza Hotel—attracted the likes of presidents and celebrities. Now, with the course's fresh coat of paint and redesigned 5,000-square-foot clubhouse that pays tribute to the site's history, the course is even more of a crowdpleaser.
