Carpet Cleaning - to Protect Your Valuable Investment and Maintain a Healthy Indoor Environment
Flooring is expensive. In fact, it is the single highest cost item in most homes. How do you get the most out of your investment? ...by maintaining it! Just like your home and automobile, your carpet requires regular maintenance. Regular vacuuming, prompt spot removal, regular professional cleaning, and the timely application of a quality carpet protector such as Scotchgard or Teflon Advanced will prolong the life of your investment. Your carpet should be vacuumed once or twice each week, and professional cleaning should take place before the carpet has visible soil. How often should I have my carpet cleaned? A properly cleaned carpet will not re-soil quickly and will last years longer. Proper professional cleaning performed on a timely basis removes soil and grit left behind after vacuuming. This remaining soil and grit cuts and slices the carpet fibers as it is being walked on, causing damage to the carpet yarns in the traffic areas. The result is that even with a professional restorative cleaning process, the damage to the fiber cannot be corrected. Major carpet manufacturers including Shaw and Invista ("Stainmaster" carpet) require professional hot water extraction cleaning every 12 to 18 months to maintain the texture retention warranty. Not to mention that a carpet not cleaned on a regular basis is an unhealthy carpet... The EPA publishes a guide that recommends regular cleaning frequencies based on the number of occupants. The EPA guidelines state that in a home with two adults the carpet should be cleaned every 12 to 18 months. If you smoke, have allergies, live in a humid climate, have children or indoor pets, more frequent cleaning is recommended. Take special notice of heavy traffic areas, as they should be cleaned most often. The bottom line is that carpeting which is properly and professionally cleaned on a regular basis will last longer, look better and will help create a healthier home environment for you and your family.
If you have light colored carpet, you may experience dark soiling along baseboards, under doors, and especially near the HVAC return. This is known as filtration soiling. How does this happen? As soil is deposited into the carpet, it begins a migration process through the carpet fibers due to airflow from the HVAC system. As the soil passes through the carpet fibers, it is filtered and ultimately becomes very fine, even microscopic. These microscopic soil particles continue to migrate until they become trapped along the baseboards or under a closed door. This type of soiling can not be removed with a regular cleaning process. In fact, most carpet cleaning companies have no idea how to correct this problem! Can Carpet Pros remove filtration soiling? In most cases, YES! Technologically advanced cleaning solutions, in the hands of our skilled and knowledgeable technicians, allow us to achieve quality results in the treatment of unsightly filtration soiling.
A Stain-resist Carpet is Made with Two Protective Properties
The first is an acid dye blocker - basically a clear dye that fills the extra dye sites in a fiber. This helps to keep "foreign" dyes, such as red dye in a beverage from penetrating the carpet fiber. The second property is called a "fluorochemical". It is commonly known as 3M Scotchgard® or DuPont Teflon®. This treatment helps keep spillage from penetrating the acid dye blocker, but its biggest job is to repel dry soil. By repelling dry soil, less damaging soil will bond to the carpet and will therefore be picked up by your vacuum as well as your next professional cleaning.
Dry Soil is your Carpet s Biggest Enemy. Carpet Protector Repels Dry Soil.
Making sure that you have a sufficient amount of protector on your carpet will help keep the soil from bonding to the carpet. Once it bonds to the carpet, it acts like sandpaper on your traffic area. Once the yarns in the traffic area are broken down, there is NO way to bring them back to their original state.
Didn t the Manufacturer Apply Protector to the Carpet?
Most likely yes, but protector is NOT permanent. Carpet protectors are water based; this means that they will lose their effectiveness over time. For this reason, carpet protector should be reapplied with each cleaning.
5 Reasons To Always Get Carpet Protector
Reduce Permanent Stains
A single ugly spot can ruin a great looking carpet. Unprotected carpet does not repel spills as well as protected carpet. More effective removal of spots and spills may avoid permanent staining.
Help Save Your Walking Areas from Becoming Worn and Matted.
Walking area soil is very abrasive and cuts carpet yarns like a knife. This damaging soil can easily bond to an unprotected carpet. By applying protector you will increase the life of your carpet dramatically. When you vacuum your protected carpet the soils will release from the carpet pile much more effectively.
Make Spots Easier to Remove.
If a spot is easier to remove, you will need less cleaner, less agitation, and less time. Many spots can be removed easily with just hot water.
Make Your Next Cleaning More Effective.
Having protector applied to your carpet will enhance your next cleaning. More abrasive soil will be removed with future vacuuming as well as the next time your carpet is professionally cleaned.
Help Avoid Costly Service Calls.
Although you want to call us out to handle any spot you cannot remove immediately, carpet protector helps you clean more spots than you could without protector. You may be able to save a minimum charge by removing the spot yourself. Carpet and Fabric Protection is Guaranteed to Work or Your Money Back!
Pet Stains and Odors
There is a difference between cleaning the urine soiling and treating for odor. Just cleaning the urine spots may not remove any associated bacteria or the odor. In fact, cleaning alone could increase the odor in the air space temporarily. We have specific processes for treating the bacteria and thus the odor associated with "pet accidents" on your wall-to-wall carpeting. This treatment is very thorough and will eliminate the bacteria and the offensive pet odor in most cases. The product we use is safe for your pets and environmentally friendly. For heavy urine contamination, we may recommend a three-layer odor treatment which involves treating the backing of the carpet, replacing the padding, and treating the subfloor. This treatment is absolutely guaranteed to eliminate all odors as well as the associated bacteria.
... and those Yellow Urine Stains?
Our specialized processes for treating pet stains achieve excellent results in neutralizing yellow pet urine stains. But beware: pet urine can cause permanent stains on your carpeting and fabrics! The urine is initially in a slightly acidic state it is easier to clean when fresh. Once it dries, it turns alkaline and becomes much more difficult to remove. If left for days or weeks, urine can permanently change the dye structure, causing dye loss or a bleaching effect, which results in permanent staining. Even if the soluble deposits are removed, the damage to the dye structure may already be done. Make sure to clean up pet urine quickly or schedule a professional cleaning as soon as possible. No one can guarantee complete removal of all urine spots. But there's a good chance that we will be able to remove the pet stain or at least make it less visible.
