They say it's hard to keep a good man down, but it's even harder to keep a good recipe to yourself. Since 1949 the Sweeney family—starting with W.D. "Dee" Sweeney—has been cooking up some of the tastiest Tennessee barbecue around. Each time Dee thought he was ready to retire, in the '60s, '70s, and '80s, he decided he couldn't keep his signature style to himself, a tradition even his son David carried on when he took the helm in 1995.
Now in it's most recent incarnation as Sportsmans BBQ, the family tradition continues on and strong. Barbecue pork, beef, and chicken are smoked each day, filling plates or hearty sandwiches.
