Ounce of Prevention Fund supports young children from low-income neighborhoods with educational programming designed to spur healthy development. Using scientific research on early development, Ounce of Prevention Fund works with more than 3,300 children aged 6 weeks to 5 years. It implements home-visiting programs to build positive environments within young families and organizes Head Start programs to fuel early learning. Opened in 2000, its Educare School of Chicago also teaches children aged 5 and younger from several neighborhoods such as Englewood and Washington Park. Its full-day services build school-readiness skills in conjunction with parental involvement to help prepare youth for kindergarten.
