The service can be somewhat slow at times and if you are having appetizers first, don't order the food right away. We had soup and the entrees came shortly after the soup and were only warm when we started eating them. They need to pace the kitchen a little bit.

flavor of the food is great but little pricey

We thought the salsa was one of the best we have ever had. Also have delicious entrees and great service. A wonderful addition to the South Loop.

Shrimp tacos are not as balanced. The chipotle is the main spice. Barely taste garlic and the sweet corn does not come through. Missing a crunch factor. Steak and carnitas are better.

The food was wonderful - very fresh and tasty, and many options from which to choose. The noise level, however, was too loud for me. Hard to hear our waiter, and hard to hear my dinner companion, who was only across the table from me. So if you're going with a lively bunch, this is the place!!

From Our Editors

The chefs at Zapatista cull tantalizing dishes from across the culinary regions of Mexico and spice them with piquant sauces and marinades. Diners nosh on fresh meats and veggies inside the vibrant yellow-, green-, and red-walled dining rooms, which teem with wooden tables reposing under hanging star lanterns and candelabra chandeliers. The spacious interior's rounded archways separate the dining areas, and rough-hewn-stone arches stand guard over myriad liqueurs at the bar like Rumpelstiltskin stands guard over firstborns.
