It's a lovely oasis of native Californian vegetation smack in the middle of freeways and busyness!

I waited until the last day to use groupon and unfortunately it was a super hot day! Didn't want my grandchild to get heat exhaustion so we only toured about half hour. It would be a fun exploration for a much longer visit but on a day when the temps are cooler.

We took the tour and it was absolutely amazing. The guide was excellent and even went over his time. You will love it. So worth the $$

I bought this groupon months ago and just realized that it was going to expire so I got off work early to take my elementary aged school boys. It was a hot day but it was a fun time. I wasnt thinking and didnt bring any water with us. We walked up to the store on top of the hill and was able to buy water and iced tea. The walk was easy and there were plenty of shady places to sit and rest. There were restrooms on the trails and lots and lots of squirrels to look at. I would find it hard to pay 8 bucks a pop to get in but with the groupon it was well worth the money i paid.

It would be helpful to post more signs or maps in the California Plant Communities area. It is easy to lose your way on the map because everything starts looking the same after a while. For example, maybe there can be signs in front of the Joshua trees, fan palms, Torrey pines, etc, identifying the trees so visitors have a reference to the map. Thanks!

Really nice place to visit. We took our three kids ages 3-8 and all enjoyed the turtles, giant tree ring, and walking on the paths seeing nature. We will go again in spring.

From Our Editors

In 1927, rancher and conservationist Bixby Bryan set aside 200 acres of her family's ranch to showcase California plants sprouting from their native terrain. Eighty years later, wild lilacs and manzanitas thrive on Indian Hill Mesa, and the fertile land's northern 55 acres nourish spring-blooming flannel bushes and joshua trees. The garden strives to showcase native cultures as well, collaborating with members of the Tongva tribe to construct Tongva village. Skilled horticulturists empower visitors to use native plants in their own home gardens and get-rich-quick beanstalk schemes, with informative displays and frequent community education programs.
