Bjs Velvet Freez Loves You!
About this Business
From Our Editors
Since first opening as a Tastee Freez nearly 60 years ago, not much else at BJ’s has changed except for the name. Though ownership has changed hands a few times, it’s always been a family-run business, and the current owners have been filling cones with the stand’s trademark soft-serve since 1989. Still in the original building, patrons coast through the drive-thru (one of the first in the area) or walk up to an order window to peruse a menu laden with burgers and ice cream.
Aside from the soft-serve—which can be plunged into 1 of 10 cone-dip flavors or purchased in to-go pints—diners dig into specialty ice-cream concoctions such as a peanut delight or a Boston shake capped with sundae-style toppings. Unlike Willy Wonka’s safety deposit box, BJ’s has more than sweets: servers can build combo meals with cheeseburgers, chicken strips, or pork-tenderloin sandwiches.
