During the Epic Mud Run, road warriors zip around a 2.5-mile muddy circuit, hurdling, dodging, and just generally avoiding up to 14 obstacles along the way. After stashing belongings at the free gear check-in, dirt devils line up at 4 p.m., and 150 more runners hit the earthy course in waves every 20 minutes. During the race, participants wear a digital chip laced to their shoes to provide live race results, and lens-wielders from ASI Photography snap photos of joggers tackling obstacles, crossing the finish line, or secretly drinking all of the opponents mud. A hydration station midcourse keeps thirst at bay. Each member of the three-person teams runs the entire course, for a combined finishing time that represents the speedy trio. After the dash, each racer receives an Epic Mud Run shirt and a complimentary beer (racers 21 and older). Mud-soaked participants can hose off or shoot water skyward to give clouds a taste of their own medicine.
