Though many Americans may not have heard of it, Makis Place—which goes by the motto "More fish. Less rice. Better price."—has experienced its share of success. In three years, the Japanese eatery expanded from one modest restaurant to more than 100 locations in Brazil. The company has now traveled northward to treat the States to its signature brand of temaki—a delectable sushi hand roll. Unlike the dainty hand rolls in most sushi restaurants, however, these ones weigh in at a hefty five ounces, or approximately the weight of an arcade game's take-home pay. The giant cones of supple seaweed, made only when they're ordered and ready in minutes, incorporate steamy rice and a variety of ingredients such as veggies, shrimp, salmon, or tuna. Fixings such as avocado, cheese, or a variety of sauces complete the morsel to create a hearty alternative to traditionally meager sushi portions.
