Horses charge down an open field, riders willing them faster with clubs raised high in the air. A sudden thwack echoes through the air, and the charge continues. Rather than a scene from a medieval reenactment, this is just another day at The Dallas Polo Club, where riders meet to compete in what’s sometimes called “the sport of kings.” Crowds venture to the club on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays to partake in live international polo matches open to the general public. Sport enthusiasts eager to try their hand at the game can enroll in lessons that teach riding basics, club techniques, and, as they progress, advanced game tactics. Experienced instructors and practiced players alike lead each lesson and pair students with trained club horses so that participants don’t need to tame their own wild stallion on the way to class. The club offers polo lessons for individuals and groups, and also holds as a team-building exercise for corporate clients and other gatherings.
