When it comes to coaching, owners of Boom Sports Guy and Traci have all the credentials you'd expect. Tracy played 15 years of basketball at the competitive level, including Division 1 college ball, and Guy was all-state in soccer. But it's their academic backgrounds that give them the edge, especially since many of the players they coach are only 18 months old. The duo holds degrees in psychology and neuroscience, and Traci is a qualified early childhood development teacher. They draw on their dual passions to help little ones develop motor and social skills with sports-based games and stories.
For older kids ages 4–10, Traci and Guy focus on fundamentals of football, basketball, and soccer—a sport the rest of the world calls goal-ball. The focus in these classes is to build up not only athletic skill, but also the confidence needed to tryout for and play on a team. Throughout any given week of classes, the coaches work on five to six fun activities, each demanding an increasingly deft touch. This approach gets kids acclimated with such skills as ball control or shooting technique in a non-intimidating, non-competitive way.
