For one weekend in May, the Iowa State Fairgrounds transform into the confectionary capital of the country. During the two-day Iowa Chocolate Festival, chocolatiers and home bakers from across the state compete for honors in eight chocolate categories, including Best Truffle, Best Fudge, and Best Chocolate Cake. What that means for crowds? Samples and morsels of some of the area's finest desserts. When they're not tasting these wares or devising plans for water-beds full of ganache, visitors can also watch the crowning of Little Miss and Mr. Chocolates and learn the cocoa arts during chocolate demonstrations.
