With its stately pillars, French doors, and two-floor porch, Highlands House typifies the Antebellum architecture found throughout the South, even though it was built in 1946. And with its views of the Florida Gulf and beach access, the picturesque house is, unsurprisingly, a popular wedding venue.
But guests who aren't getting married there can still enjoy its charms at the onsite restaurant and bar, where the kitchen prepares inventive New American cuisine and tapas with an international twist. During dinner, osso bucco is paired with a candied bacon cornbread cake, and the paella arrives with Gulf Coast shrimp, clams, and mussels poured over saffron rice. There's brunch service, too, with indulgent creations such as a monte cristo with housemade brioche, smoked ham, and strawberry preserves.
