From Our Editors
A maroon stripe zigzags through Absolute Fitness’s workout facility, wrapping around a fleet of treadmills and ellipticals and a legion of resistance machinery. An indoor pool, stoked to 87 degrees to ward off skinny-dipping polar bears, nixes traditional chlorine and other chemicals in favor of a soft, salt-water cleaning system. The pool also serves as a classroom for aqua aerobic classes, and on-land studios host group fitness sessions including Zumba, Pilates, boot-camp, and spin classes. Absolute Fitness keeps its membership small to cultivate a community vibe, and classes are usually uncrowded, ranging from 4 to 15 people. After a sweat session, patrons can freshen up in locker rooms or water a shy houseplant by placing it in one of the private showers.
