I have been to the Portofino on two occasions and both times I was very disappointed. The first time, it happened to be a very cold weekend, and the heat in our condominium did not work, which we did not discover until the middle of the night when we woke up freezing. There were also several lamps with bulbs out, and the overall decor of the condominium was very dark - black lampshades and gold and black furnishings - not at all how we hoped a beach condo would look like. Also, indoor pool was out of use, the spa had very limited staff and not able to take our requests for manicures or pedicures. Even the yoga class was booked for the entire time we were there. We were given a gift certificate to come back for a second visit, which we did in February. That too was a huge disappointment, and when we arrived in our condominium, which was nice enough, we went to get in bed, only to find soiled sheets that clearly had not been washed (there was even pubic hair on the sheets TMI) and when I called housekeeping to ask that new sheets be brought up so I could change them myself, the housekeeping boy did not want to remove the dirty sheets and suggested I leave them in the condo. I insisted he take them so that the next guest would not discover them. There was also fresh blood stains on the blanket. Disgusting!
We tried to make the most of the second visit there, and we booked a sunset cruise, only to be called as we were walking out the door to meet the tour, and told it had been cancelled. We went to sit out by the pool and have dinner, only to be told it was closed due to a wedding party. I can't see how you can close the pool area and a restaurant to paying guests. Overall, I have been very disappointed and frustrated with my two visits to Portofino. I wish it had been different. I understand things can go wrong, but the number of disasters was almost comedic and the lack of attention to cleanliness and maintenance is unforgivable.
