The Poconos Mountains may not be the Bavarian Alps, but you'd never know it during the Poconos' Wurst Festival. During two days in July, the Shawnee Mountain Ski Area turns into a miniature version of Germany and Poland. Read on to learn what you can find amid the slopes.
- Polka Music and Dancing: Two stages full of accordions, guitars, and dancers clad in lederhosen will summon the sights and sounds of polka and oompah. Expect to hear The Chardon Polka Band, the Apple Strudel Gang, and the One Man Polka Band.
- Wursts and Wieners: Classic German and Polish dishes, from wursts to kielbasas, will pair with imported brews.
- Stein Hoisting: Expanding the activity beyond the range of table to mouth, this contest sees how long participants can hold two full 1-liter steins straight out in front of them.
- Kids Activities: Entertain wee ones with hot-dog races, inflatable slides, jugglers, and face-painting stations.
