Mariposa's Latin Kitchen is a family affair. Having spent much of her youth in the kitchen, Irma Gamez was just 16 when she started working in her first restaurant, learning the tricks and techniques she would carry with her for a lifetime. After completing her formal training at culinary school, Gamez opened Irma's Catering, disseminating the family recipes she had collected, from homemade hot sauce to her ever-popular tamales. Working with her daughter, Crystal, she eventually opened Mariposa's Latin Kitchen, where they serve up enchiladas, tamales, and rotating specials in a quaint, rustic dining room.
