I unseat too why they need groupon to get business . They where very nice but the atmostphere was lacking . The cheese was blue bell brand cheese . It was very hard to take them seriously and buy there wine which I thought was over priced .

It's really out of the way. The wine was fairly good, but it had no atmosphere to the place.

Great service, clean environement, and she was very educated on the wine she was having us taste. An added plus, the labels on the bottles are adorable. Also, there is some history behind the tasting room and I belive is registered as a historic site.

It's seemed really new and not as put together as most vineyards.

It is out a back road, off the beaten path... Vines haven't matured yet, tasting room looks like a little run down farm house. Lesson #1 don't judge a book by its cover. What a great experience. The people that run it work in DC during the week, hence the name and do this on weekends. The building was the first African American owned general store and post office in that area. Very historic. The tasting is very different from what I've had. We didnt just taste wine. We talked about training the palette with salty and sour or spicy , chocolate, etc great service. Most of the grapes come from second location in Charlottsville. The bottles also depict personalities of capital hill and wine.

Overall, I was disappointed with this Groupon. The Groupon was for a 90 minute wine tasting and pairing; however, the overall experience lasted 45 minutes. I was disappointed at the short explanations, and the small quantities of the tasting. We tasted four wines. The pairings were salt, a chili jam, a PIECE of cheese, one little smoky sausage and a bite size crabcake thing. I expected there to be more than four wines to taste and a more elaborate pairing selection. Also, the vineyard is in what looks to be a old house, so ambience is lacking. Further, the winery does not have reservation on Saturday for the Groupon, so you have to go on Sunday.

From Our Editors

A 30-acre swath of lush, Red Oak Mountain terrain surrounds Capitol Vineyards' historic facilities, where owners Lauren Shrem and Matthew Noland forge an eclectic collection of French-style wines from Virginia grapes. With help from a resident French winemaker and vintners across the state, they press an array of vintages, dispensing the elixirs during events inside the facility's historic, rustic tasting room. Constructed as a post office in the 1800s and used as a general store in the early 1900s, the site still bears its original wooden bar, floors, and grizzled prospector.
