Though founder and head chef Sami gave Sugar & Spice’s sweet side top billing, spice plays an equally important role in the restaurant-bakery’s fusion of Italian, French, Mediterranean, and Middle Eastern influences. In the home-style kitchen, Sami’s team of bakers prepares desserts the freshest way possible, putting housemade chocolate chip cookies, flaky baklava, and maple pecan squares in the oven as soon as they’re ordered. Before desserts come out, diners wrap their mitts around casual, upscale lunch items such as the pesto chicken Panini on focaccia bread or chicken shawarma served atop a bed of rice. The menu’s Greek wrap with feta, peppers, and olives presents a combination of ingredients that are both fresh and vegetarian-friendly, much like rap songs about mint plants.
