This particular horseback ride was great for an 'advanced beginner' if there is such a thing. If you have never ridden before, it is a bit overwhelming as the introduction was simply, get on the horse and a 10 minute - pull this way, that way, ok lets go. The woman leading the group was very far ahead of all of us for the majority of the ride, which seemed a bit odd as many of us were still so nervous about the whole experience. She did ask at the beginning of the ride how many were novice so she was well aware of our lack of familiarity and comfort level. All-in-all, it was a great day of fresh air and spending time with my daughter. The horses seemed easy going, they knew the trail through the woods and along the high electric wire area.

They were running about 30-45 min behind so be prepared if you have to wait. My girls rode and I walked along taking pictures. If you do this, wear good boots and be prepared for a good hike. Also, bring water.

Great place for beginners & the scenery is beautiful. The horses know the trails so there is literally no experience needed & the people who run it are awesome & very down to earth. Not to mention almost all of the animals have amazing rescue stories

From Our Editors

Situated on 24 acres of woods and meadows in central Massachusetts, Cornerstone Ranch allows riders to savor New England's breathtaking foliage year-round with lessons, camps, and rides through scenic terrain. Owner Sue Connell and her family prep their fleet of horses with exhaustive training and pesticide-free fly-control practices, making the steeds even safer to ride than Smokey the Bear. Sue steers horse-drawn sleighs during winter months and gangs astride steeds during warmer weather, leading fellow riders through a labyrinth of woodsy trails. She and an equally experienced instructor helm riding lessons for all levels year-round and fold the same principles into weeklong summer camps. The camps cater to beginner and advanced equestrians alike, teaching kids how to catch, lead, tie up, groom, and outfit horses with bridles and saddles before mounting and riding them into kid-sized sunsets. Daily schedules consist of two rides, including group excursions and trail jaunts. At week's end, equestrians flaunt their new skills at a horse show for friends and parents.
