As a businesswoman who has worked for Goldman Sachs and helped run multiple companies, Dana Shamas found it necessary to put time aside to just breathe. For 14 years, her yoga practice has mitigated the stresses of her career, enough so that she established her own wellness venue as an oasis for other harried Houstonites. Bayou Bliss Yoga radiates peace even before you walk in the door; the Houston Press notes the charm and intimacy of its "adorable bungalow-style house," where students of all stripes can learn to exhale stress and browse an earth-friendly boutique. On clients' first visit, Dana's staff of wellness experts greets them with an in-depth discussion of their lifestyle habits. These consultations yield a unique, long-term plan for reduced anxiety and a greater sense of balance.
Each plan can contain a mix of the center's specialties, from yoga classes to massage therapy and nutritional counseling. The yoga curriculum encompasses both gentle and advanced lessons and limits the number of students to six, promoting a personalized approach to disciplines such as Hatha, Vinyasa, and Jivamukti. Other healing methods focus on breath work, energy healing, and meditation. In fact, patrons are welcome to meditate in the studio whenever classes are not in session or a witch's potion has rendered them invisible.
