1. The salon is SO dated. Looks like it hasn't been updated since it was built (which looks to be around the late 70s/early 80s). A new/fresh paint job would do wonders. It's actually a very large a salon - has a lot of potential. Definitely needs some updating though. 2. The "spa chair" was worn and slightly ripped. They need a new chair. It wasn't dirty, but looked very much used. 3.The "massage" that was advertised on the Groupon is just the massage from the spa chair itself. You don't ACTUALLY get a massage... 4. The actual manicure and pedicure was OKAY. Certainly nothing high end or spectacular. Looking at my nails now, I can tell where there were spots missed, uneven coats of paint, and uneven shaping of the nails. Although she took her time, she wasn't thorough. 5. She didn't have the callous removers that now have in the salons (the ones that look like cheese graters). She had like a callous smoother/sander - it just sort of smoothed them out some. I wear heals 6, sometimes 7, days a week - you have to scrape those callouses off! Those little smoother things aren't going to do the trick for me. 6. She didn't use and/or have a pumice stone. 7. Whatever container she was getting the "sugar scrub" from was practically empty. She was like scrapping the bottom of the container. AND, the container was already open before she even started on my services - how long has it been like that? 8. The spa chair and everything was sort of out in the open. It's actually the first thing you see when you walk into the salon. Sort of off-putting for a customer basically having to "greet" the other customers that were there to get there hair done. Wish it was a little more private - all the hair customers have private areas... 9. The esthetician's "uniform" was unofficial. No name of the salon or even HER name on the uniform. A little unprofessional, I think. 10. Not completely sure that her products were "organic." They SAID organic on the bottles, but I was completely unfamiliar with the brand name. Don't think it was a high end, certified organic brand. 11. The nail polish selection was not that great. They only had a few OPI gel colors - the rest were some other brand I didn't recognize. I didn't really look at the regular nail polish colors, because I had brought my own, but I didn't recall there being many of the better name brands. Also, the UV lamp/dryer for the nails was dirty. Looked like it hadn't been cleaned in quite a while. Overall, the experience was OKAY; but, I wouldn't go back. The nail service was subpar (nothing I couldn't get a cheaper nail salon) and there are some cleanliness concerns (nothing looked totally disgusting, but there was evidence that things hadn't been wiped off/cleaned off/taken care off in some time). The esthetician was very nice and personable, but it sort of feels like the nail service was an after-thought. Perhaps they just felt like they NEEDED to have it, but they didn't really invest in making it nice and incorporating it into the rest of the salon. I think if they made it more spa-like and provided a more private/secluded area and the esthetician perfected her skills, it would actually be really good.

From Our Editors

Envy Salon owner Katrina Smith has been a nail technician for more than 15 years, and in that time she has embraced using organic products for her manicures and pedicures. She performs more traditional services as well, including acrylic and gel sets, and can also groom faces with brow waxing and individual lash extensions. She is normally found at her space inside Envy Salon, but can also travel to perform onsite treatments for wedding parties or acrobats who don't want to ruin their manicure by walking home on their hands.
